Arthur Rowe took charge at Crystal Palace in 1960 and he promptly earned the club promotion back in to the third division in 1961 as they finished it off in second position. Rowe spent three years in charge at Palace, leaving the club in 1963as he established palace as a force in the third division. Dick Graham took in charge at Crystal Palace in 1963 and the 1963 – 1964 campaign was a triumph for the eagles as they were in emphatic form finishing the campaign off in second position, earning promotion I to the second division. The eagles finished the 1964 – 1965 season off in the quarter finals of the FA cup, suffering a 3-0 defeat against Leeds United in the cup competition. The established themselves quite well in the second division as they enjoyed a fine seventh position finish at the end of the 1966 – 1967 campaign and the club saw the appointment of new manager, Bert Head in 1966. He guided Crystal palace in to the first division at the end of the 1968 – 1969 campaign as they finished it off second position. They reached the quarter finals of the league during the same year, however suffered a 2-0 defeat against Burnley FC. The eagles struggled in the first division during the 1969 – 1970 campaign as they finished it off in 20th position, however narrowly escaped relegation.
