Chris Coleman

In the year 1987, Coleman made his league debut for Swansea City and went on to star for the club on over 200 occasions. After four blistering years playing for Swansea, Coleman moved on to play for Crystal Palace, a club which he went on to spend four seasons with. In 1995, Blackburn Rovers purchased the player for £2.8 million and he soon made an instant impact, his spell at Blackburn only lasted two seasons and he moved on to Fulham during the 1997-98 campaign. In January 1998, he was installed as club captain and soon became a supporter’s favorite. He helped the club to promotion from the second division all the way into the premiership. In January 2001, Coleman broke his leg in a car crash and never played again for the club; towards the start of 2003 he was installed as manger of Fulham.

Gareth Southgate

Without doubt, Southgate was one of the finest defenders the country produced during the 1990’s and he was a true leader on the football pitch. He started his career off playing for Crystal Palace in 1990. He became the youngest captain in the football league and led the team to the division one title in 1994. After six years playing for Palace, Southgate moved on to play for Aston Villa in 1995 and converted in to a centre back role at the club. He helped Villa win the league cup in 1996 and was a great captain for the Midlands club.
Steve McClaren signed Southgate, partnering him at the back with his former team mate, Ugo Ehiogu. In his debut season at the club, Southgate won the ‘player of the year’ award and was installed as club captain during the 2002-03 season and helped Boro win the Carling Cup in 2004. In total he as made more than 230 appearances for Middlesbrough and is currently their manager, however he is still registered as a player.
